Renting a Council Garage
We have a number of Council garages to rent across Reading and Woodley. For a full list of available sites [92kb], download the attached PDF.
Complete our online garage application form. Once we have processed your application we will make you an offer, or - if there are no vacancies when you apply - add your name to the waiting list and contact you when a garage becomes available.
We have three different rent bands for garages, reflecting the demand for the garage. Weekly rent costs are:
|Tenant||Category A||Category B||Category C|
|Disabled Council tenants||£12.83||£9.16||£7.89|
|Other Borough residents||£16.60||£12.19||£10.67|
|Disabled Borough residents||£15.40||£10.99||£9.47|
We have the right to change the rent at any time, but will always give you at least two weeks' notice. You must pay your rent in advance by a weekly, fortnightly or monthly direct debit.
You can use your garage to store vehicles and household or garden items. We are not liable for loss or damage to property stored in your garage. You may not:
- Use your garage for business activities
- Store flammable or explosive substances
- Alter your garage without written permission from us
- Sublet or share your garage
- Display notices without written permission from us
- Cause nuisance to nearby residents
- Obstruct any roadway or footpath to the garage or site.
You must also allow us reasonable access to check the condition of the garage. When you rent a garage you will sign a 'garage tenancy agreement' that will include these and other tenancy rules.
You can request a garage repair using our Housing Repairs form.
You can end your tenancy at any time by giving us one week's notice in writing. When you leave, you must remove all your belongings from the garage and return your keys to us at the Civic Offices on the date your tenancy ends.
If you do not empty the garage, return the keys, or if we have to carry out any repairs, you will be charged for the costs.
